What does it mean to "rectify" a tile
One of the main distinctions in the catalogs of the best tile brands is precisely between rectified tiles and non-rectified tiles.

But what exactly does rectified mean?

A tile is defined as rectified when its edges are perfectly smooth and the corners form a 90° corner: this is a finishing process that is carried out on the edge of the tile following its firing.

At the end of the firing process, in fact, the tiles have irregular edges which are leveled off with special cutters, making the edge smooth and then rectifying the tile.

In addition to a better aesthetic result, the presence of grinding also facilitates tile laying operations.

To recognize a rectified tile, simply touch the edge of the tile with your hand: if it is perfectly smooth, without imperfections, then the tile is rectified.

Why choose a rectified tile?

As far as laying is concerned, in fact, rectified tiles allow for the use of a very thin joint (2 mm thick) in order to have a finer result: a joint of smaller dimensions, in fact, involves less dirt, chromatic alterations between the tiles and bacterial formation.

From an aesthetic point of view, with rectified tiles it is possible to obtain continuous surfaces, especially if large format tiles or maxi slabs are used.

A less obvious joint gives the impression of a single floor and manages to give more importance to the texture of the tile or the design on the surface.

If the use of a rectified tile is always advisable, it is almost mandatory in environments where the need for hygiene is greater, such as bathrooms, kitchens, clinics or commercial premises to have less accumulation of bacteria and greater ease of cleaning .
