Portable air conditioners: what are the advantages?

Posted on2023-04-12 604

A portable air conditioner is a perfect solution for second homes or for those who cannot install an external motor.

In some situations, such as in historic centers or in restricted areas, it is not possible to install the external unit of the split air conditioner on the façade.

In this case, there are two solutions to still have air conditioning in the house:

- fixed monobloc air conditioners, made up of a single product that is mounted on the wall like a normal air conditioner

- portable air conditioners, equipped with wheels and easily moved from one room to another in case of need.

Having a much lower cost than packaged air conditioners, portable air conditioners are also the ideal solution for holiday homes.

Advantages and disadvantages of portable air conditioners
One of the main advantages of a portable air conditioner is that it can be used anywhere, even in campers on boats and in all those situations where it is not possible to fix an air conditioner to the wall.

The installation of these products is extremely simple and it is an economic and functional product.

Furthermore, the cost of a portable air conditioner is usually lower than that of a traditional air conditioner, especially if we also consider labor costs.

The main disadvantage is that the performance of a portable air conditioner is not comparable to that of a traditional split air conditioner: the motor of a portable air conditioner, in fact, is decidedly smaller than that of a fixed air conditioner and, consequently, is not able to optimize performance and consumption like a traditional air conditioner.

Furthermore, a portable air conditioner is quite noisy and, especially at night, can be annoying if placed in the same room in which it is resting.

In most portable air conditioners it is necessary to connect the pipe to the outside and it is necessary to check for the presence of condensation: the water tank must in fact be emptied periodically. In summer, in particular, a lot of condensation is produced due to the higher humidity rate in the rooms.

There are some models, however, that allow you to avoid this task.

One of these is the Haier portable air conditioner: in fact, this model is equipped with a small turbine placed next to the battery which allows the condensation water to flow towards the battery itself which transforms it into steam without the need for the presence of a condensate collection tray.

Most portable air conditioners do not work with a heat pump and can only be used in the summer to cool the rooms but, even in this case, there are some models that can also be used in the winter for heating.

In case you also need a portable air conditioner for heating, the most suitable model is the Vortice Kryo Polar Evo: this portable air conditioner has five operating modes (automatic, cooling, dehumidification, ventilation and heating) and is a in energy class A with air-air operating mode and air-water operating mode (supercool) which guarantees a greater cooling capacity and a decidedly higher efficiency.
